Venus Bay. South Gippsland, Victoria
Located 180km from Melbourne, Venus Bay is a sparsely populated coastal peninsula, featuring over 28km of uninterrupted Bass Strait coastline to one side, and Anderson Inlet on the other, Adjoining this coastline, accessed through beaches 1-5, is the Cape Liptrap Coastal Park, a National Parks protected conservation area, which ensures the beaches remain uninterrupted by any development or physical structure. With it’s wide open beaches, comes some wild weather - Venus is the place to experience nature at her most elemental. Fronts run through quickly in this past of the world, cloud formations are always mesmerising, and sunsets never disappoint, courtesy of the westerly aspect.
Activity and adventure is well catered for - fishing options are numerous, Point Smythe at the end of the road kills a few hours, and the many surf breaks will ensure there’s always somewhere to catch a break (note beach 1 is the only patrolled beach). Those wishing to make a day of it may choose the scenic drive around to Wilson’s Promontory or adventuring around the many beaches of the nearby Bunurong Marine Park.
Venus carries a magical, rejuvenating energy; a unique pulse created by the sound of waves crashing and wind through the trees, just as it’s always been.
Walkerville. South Gippsland, Victoria
An undiscovered gem of the Victorian coastline, Walkerville is a small hamlet of outstanding natural beauty. Two beaches, Walkerville South and Walkerville North are separated by a small headland. Both featuring stunning coastal vista’s of Wilsons Promontory, located a short 45 minute drive away. The Easterly orientation of these ensure they remain calm on most days, whilst the sheltered coves make great beaches for children. Activities such as snorkelling, kayaking, fishing and rock pooling are safely & easily enjoyed across both beaches.
Hints of days gone by can still be found at Walkerville South, where remnants of the old lime kilns still line the shore. A fantastic short walk threads the headland between both, taking in the original graveyard, kilns and other local landmarks. Beyond the beaches, The Cape Liptrap lighthouse, Bald Hills Wetlands and Bald Hills wind farm make for great sight seeing. Farther afield, a trip to Wilsoms Promontory isn’t to be missed, and the pretty towns such a Meeniyan, Fish Creek are abounds with treasures.
Calm and reflective, Walkerville is a wonderful spot to rest, rejuvenate, and move slowly.
Lorne. Surf Coast, Victoria
The centre of the Surf coast, Lorne is the ultimate combination of bush and beach, marking the perfect rest point when touring the world famous Great Ocean Road and the gateway to the fantastic Otway Ranges. Scenic walks are a given, and with options like Erskine Falls & Teddy’s lookout, all fitness levels
A cooling dip in Louttit Bay , home to Victoria’s famous pier to pub swim, will never go astray Its Southern edges protected from the gusty winds that can pass through the region. There’s always somewhere to catch a break and the pier makes for a memorable fishing spot.
It’s not only the active that Lorne provides for - it’s one of our favourite regional areas to travel for dining options. Ipsos is a stalwart of the area, and if you’re up for a scenic drive, Brae is one not to be missed. Local breweries and wine producers are well represented through the many bars and eateries, and the coffee options are some of the best outside Melbourne!
